Well Week 2 in Birkerød. We are doing amazing! This Thursday we are
having a baptism for a Nigerian woman named Bunmi. We are so excited! Last
Saturday we were able to teach an investigator named Lona. Super Solid
investigator. We went in planning to teach the Plan of Salvation. We ended up
teaching about the Atonement. She was really concerned for not being able to
have relief from previous stressful things in her life. We taught and the spirit
was so strong there that we invited her for Baptism also. We were praying about
it before visiting her. Again we were considering November 23rd I believe, maybe
the 22nd anyways that Saturday. We tried praying for that day for her but that
date couldn't be said in our prayers. We both ended the prayer and noticed that
we were both thinking of the 16th of
November. We knew that was our answer. So we invited her to Baptism on
the 16th of November. She was
surprised and shocked. She thought is was so soon. Well I guess we could have
said this weekend, but she needs to come to church and this week would be soon
haha. We were directed on what to pray about. And she accepted. What's pretty
unique is that every time that we have a Baptismal date set, President Sederholm
wants to know about it that Day. So we had the privilege of calling our mission
president. Turned out that when he answered he just landed in Iceland to visit
the Iceland missionaries and the church up there. So that was cool.
We are working super hard with one of our investigators named Finn. He
is about 60-70ish years old and Awesome. He had a previous date but got really
stressed and cancelled. We are working with him slowly. Hoping to get a date
this week. He is so cool. Played a song on the guitar and is super Danish. I
have a hard time understanding him because he has a really heavy accent.
Well that's been the most stressful thing her in Denmark. I love it
here but understanding and talking has been the biggest struggle. Why shouldn't
it be? Totally knew thing to do. When we called President Sederholm about the
baptism last Saturday he gave my a
lot of encouraging words. Told me it will come. I know it will because I know
the Lord has blessed me so much in the language already. I can understand Danish
people more and more everyday. I get a good portion of what is being said but
again a lot of key words I miss. I know that it WILL come. I have been blessed
so much with the Gift of Tongues because I am able to read Danish, especially in
Mormons Bog and I am slowly understanding the people. I am so grateful for the
spirit of the Lord we have been able to teach so many people and Testify in
Danish. Been a huge blessing for me.
Last week we stopped by a previous investigator. We call him 'Dan the
Man' Couldn't understand huge things about his life but when it got gospel
oriented I could understand. Eventually he switched over to English so he could
get his message across. He knew that it is good to have faith and hope in life.
He has hope that there is a God. But he doesn't understand his purpose in life.
We told him we can answer those questions of why are we here on this Earth,
Where did we come from and where we are going after this life. We showed him
Moroni 10:3-5. He started reading than the environment changed he thought that
was fake and bologna (the meat sandwich, don't know how to spell haha.) He got
really defensive than tried to prove us wrong of what we were doing. Immediately
President Ezra Taft Bensons words came to my mind to 'use the Book of Mormon to
handle all objections''. I tried speaking in Danish. Than I reverted back to
English so I could get my point across. I testified that our message is either
true or it false. You ask yourself if these things to be true. Why not ask God?
A perfect ALL knowing being. You would think that he would have the answers to
these questions. I told him I respect what he believes. Our job is to bring
people to the knowledge and truth that Jesus Christ Church has been restored
again. And it is our job to INVITE others to Come unto Christ. He didn't have
much objections with it, a little taken back with my remarks haha. He was still
set in his ways, we closed with a prayer and began our departure. I remember him
saying to us first to Elder King ''I don't think I made a dent in you (me), but
I do think that I did you you (Elder King)'' His original intentions was to make
us disbelieve what we knew to be true. Maybe one day he will come around. At
first I felt bad for Elder King, thinking Dan the Man made him feel kind of
weak. But than I knew why I was sad it was because a Son of God has rejected the
truth. And it is sad that he has read the Book of Mormon and has rejected a
glorious and amazing thing. There was nothing else we could do. We testified and
the spirit was super strong. He has his agency to choose. And we have no control
over that. One day he will come around I am sure of it. As we walked out the
door he patted me on the back and said ''The Force is Strong with this one'' But
we really know what that was. The Spirit of the Lord was with us and it was
powerful in there cool experience but sad at the same time. I am so grateful for
the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It's amazing how the spirit works through us to get
to the investigators. You can truly see a change in these people when they
accept the gospel.
I have been thinking a lot on Elder Hollands words and if anyone is
having a hard time they can revert back to this talk. Same one I shared at my
farewell talk. October 2012 we
have put our hand to the plow and we will NEVER look back ''Our message is not a
feeble one, it is not a fleeting task.... it is not hapless, it is not
hopeless... it is the work of the Almighty God and it is the Change the
world!!!'' I encourage everyone also to take Elder Ballard's Challenge and find
1 person before Christmas. Someone
who would be interested in hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A friend, family
member, less active. We are all children of God. Brothers and Sisters. We all
need the Gospel! It has been revealed to us through the prophets that it needs
to come through the members. We cannot do our job as missionaries with out you.
We all love you and we know what will happen as you open your own homes to your
friends and family and let the missionaries talk with everyone. Your Testimonies
and Spirit's bring so much more to lessons than what we missionaries can do on
things like knocking on Doors. People are more receptive to the gospel when they
have a friend and someone to talk to. The work truly does need to Hasten. The
Harvest is here. It is everyone's job to invite and to testify. It is the
missionaries job to teach and preach the gospel (to those who are only kept from
the truth because they know not where to find it). No matter what happens as we
work together in testifying, the spirit will help guide and direct us. You will
be blessed to bring many people unto Christ. You will see many marvelous
miracles in your lives. I know this work to be true and I know that we are all
family. I love you all. And wish you success on you missionary efforts.
